Personal account security checklist
Start with your main email and check sign-in protection, access and recovery options. The list records what you checked, never the passwords.
10 tasks
How to use it
About 30 minutes. Always open settings from the official website or app, never from a link in a “security alert” email. Never write passwords, codes or recovery codes in this list. Some steps are adapted from HowToLiveBetter by eternity4719 and contributors (CC BY 4.0). Full method and sources: https://todoandtimer.com/en/blog/personal-account-security-review
What's inside
Main email 3
- Open the security settings from the official site or app
- Make sure the email password isn’t used anywhere else
- Turn on two-step verification or a passkey, following official instructions
Access 3
- Review signed-in devices and sign out ones you don’t recognise
- Review connected third-party apps and remove unused ones
- Check the inbox for unfamiliar forwarding rules
Recovery 2
- Confirm the recovery phone and backup email are still yours
- Store recovery codes in a password manager or on paper, not in this list
Other accounts 2
- Repeat these steps for bank, payment, cloud and social accounts
- If you see signs of a break-in, follow the official account recovery process now
